Research

Add analyses

For the first part of my research I had to analyse 3 TV advertisements and 3 Radio advertisements

For TV I decided to do:

  • A car advert: Volvo V60
  • A food advert: M&S Food
  • A film advert: Sonic the Hedgehog

For Radio I decided to do:

  • A food advert: KFC
  • An information advert: Brexit
  • A loan advert: Amigo Loans

TV add 1: Volvo V60

In this advertisement they are trying to promote a family car and so they have put scenes with different families using the same car. It also has a female voice over saying different facts about family and how the car can help out.

TV add 2: M&S Food

This add is trying to promote supermarket food, so they have put in scenes that are close up's of there different products to make the watchers want to go out and buy it. It also has scenes of people from other jobs getting distracted from there own work to try and emphasise how good there food is.

TV add 3: Sonic the Hedgehog

This advert is a trailer for an upcoming movie so the production company want to try and make people want to watch the movie when it comes out and so they pick some of the best moments of the film and put them together in a way that appeals to someone.

Radio add 1: KFC

Radio adverts are different to TV adverts as there are no visuals so they have to make you want to buy their product only with sound. KFC do this by making a funny story to try and convince potential buyers.

Radio add 2: Brexit (first only)

This advertisement is trying to get to an audience that is concerned about what might happen after brexit. To do this they take scenarios with different voices asking questions that the audience may also be asking.

Radio add 3: Amigo Loans

This advert is trying to make people who want a loan chose their company for it. They do this by having 2 people in a conversation discussing the lone that they got and being happy and laughing about it to try and convince listeners.

Target audience

A target audience is a group of specific people that want or need certain service or product. This is a very important concept in advertising as when they are making an add for TV or Radio they need to make sure that it appeals for their target audience, for example an add for kids will need to have bright colours and simple words whereas an add for older audiences will need to effectively explain what their company is offering and possibly use techniques like humour to keep the watchers/listeners interested.

USP

Unique Selling Point or USP is a marketing concept that allows a product to stand out from competitors to make the target audience want to buy their product more. This is important as it allows companies to be more creative in their advertisement campaigns and it helps to make every company and their products special.

Add Analyses

For another part of my research I was required to do a detailed analyses of a single Radio or TV advert. I did the TV Curious Cats-Rain advert for a cat food company named Whiskas.

The character in this advert is a kitten with the voice of a child to symbolise that he/she is still young and they are watching a window during a rainy day and believes that it is crying. The camera angle that is used for a majority of this add is a Close-Up on the kittens face while it is watching the rain on the window. At the end of the advert there is the company logo and its slogan: Feed their curiosity along with the kittens tail upwards in the shot which is a symbol represented with the company.
